What is a SEPA QR Code?
A SEPA Single Currency Transfer (SCT) QR code encodes the IBAN, BIC/SWIFT, payee name, amount, currency and remittance reference. European banking apps read it and pre-fill the transfer form, eliminating hand-typed IBAN errors. Common for cross-border payroll and supplier payments.
Encoding structure
- Core fields: IBAN (country code + check digits), BIC/SWIFT (8 or 11 chars), payee name;
- Amount and currency (EUR-centric; SEPA also covers 30+ currencies);
- Remittance info ideally ≤ 140 characters;
- Verify the IBAN digit by digit — CodeBox does not validate it bank-side; the user owns that check.
How to generate a SEPA QR code
- Fill in IBAN, BIC, payee, amount and reference;
- Verify the IBAN digit by digit in the preview;
- Use M/Q error correction for print;
- Download PNG/SVG and test with a real banking app.
Typical uses
- Supplier payment slips for EU vendors;
- Cross-border e-commerce payment pages;
- Tuition and rent transfer instructions.
