What is MSI?
MSI (Mark-4) is one of the earliest warehouse barcodes (ISO/IEC 24728): digits only, compact modules, built for shelf locations, asset cards and stock sheets. Many legacy warehouses and library asset systems still default to it.
Encoding rules
- Digits only; keep it ≤ 12 digits for reliable scanning;
- Check digit optional: mod 10 or mod 11;
- A multiplier option transforms digit positions for legacy compatibility.
How to generate an MSI barcode
- Type digits (e.g.
1234567); - Enable the check digit if needed;
- Adjust height and colors;
- Download PNG/SVG.
Typical uses
- Warehouse shelf-level IDs;
- Fixed-asset and tool cards;
- Legacy line compatibility (new systems should prefer Code 128).
