What is ITF-14?
ITF-14 is the GS1-specified 14-digit symbol for transport packaging: indicator digit (1 or 3) + 13 digits (an EAN-13). It never goes on the single item — it goes on the carton or pallet holding many items, so warehouses can receive, count and ship whole boxes.
Encoding rules
- 14 digits; the first must be 1 or 3;
- Optional GS (0x1D) extension separator for attached data (e.g. SSCC);
- Digits are encoded in interleaved pairs — density sits between Code 128 and EAN.
How to generate an ITF-14 barcode
- Type 14 digits (e.g.
15401234123456); - Enable the GS separator if your system needs extension data;
- Print height ≥ 38 mm is recommended for cartons;
- Download PNG/SVG.
Typical uses
- E-commerce box-level picking and shipping;
- SSCC pallet identification;
- Cold-chain and auto-parts box handovers.
