What is EAN-13?
EAN-13 is managed by GS1: 13 digits = country/region prefix + manufacturer and product code + 1 check digit. Prefixes 690–699 identify mainland China, 00–09 North America, 45/49 Japan. POS systems worldwide read it by default.
Encoding rules and check digit
- Enter the first 12 digits; the check digit is computed (mod 10);
- If you enter all 13 digits, CodeBox verifies the check digit;
- The 3-digit prefix selects the L/G/R digit patterns on the left half.
How to generate an EAN-13 barcode
- Type 12 digits starting with your GS1 prefix (e.g. 690);
- Confirm the check digit in the preview;
- Set height per retail print spec (30–40 mm is common);
- Download PNG/SVG for packaging or price tags.
